23rd IAF WORLD APPAREL CONVENTION TO BE HELD IN TAIPEI: OCTOBER 24 - 26, 2007
The Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF) takes pleasure in hosting the 23rd IAF World Apparel Convention in Taipei (October 24~26, 2007). This year, the convention will focus on the theme of "Asia: An Emerging Consumer Market from Global Production Base". There are four sessions to be presented under the theme, including Trade Liberalization vs. Barriers, Asia Market: Risks & Opportunities, Capacity Growth vs. Profitability, and Technological Development and it's Application to Production and Marketing.
The intent of this forum is to provide the apparel chain with an inside look at what is happening in Asia, and particularly how the rapid growth of Asian markets are affecting current global trade policy of the apparel industry. These areas are becoming more and more critical in sourcing decisions.
We are proud to announce that well-known speakers will share their expertise regarding the trends of production management, textile trade and technological development. These distinguished speakers include, among others, Mr. William Lakin, Director General at EURATEX, and Mr Dominique Jacomet, Director General of Institut Français de la Mode. Additional information on their background can be read in the attachment. Furthermore, President Chen of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has accepted an invitation to be present at the Welcoming Addresses and will offer his welcoming remarks to all IAF delegates.
TTF will also be hosting an exclusive and unprecedented IAF Designer Award 2007 on October 25th. For the first time in history, this event will take place in the form of a Fashion Runway Show in front of the National Palace Museum in Taipei.

The countdown for the IAF World Apparel Convention has begun! Leading up to the Convention, which will be held on October 24 - 26, 2007 in Taipei, a short background on selected speakers will be distributed.
Introduction of two distinguished speakers:
Mr. William Lakin (Session I: Trade Liberalization vs. Barriers)
Director General of EURATEX (European Apparel and Textile Organization)
In 1969, Mr. William Lakin joined the staff of the International Wool Textile Organisation (IWTO). He was appointed Secretary-General of that organisation in 1972, a post he held in conjunction with that of Secretary-General of INTERLAINE, the EU Committee of the wool textile industries from 1976 until 2000. He was a Board member of Wool Commodity Group (Australia) from 1992 to 2000 and in March of 2000 was appointed Director General of EURATEX.
He was a member of the High Level Group on the future of the EU Textiles and Clothing industry established by the EU Commission in March 2004 and became an Honorary Member of the Polish Textiles and Clothing Association (PIOT) in May 2005. He is a founding member of the Governing Council of the European Textile and Clothing Technology Platform and a member of the Executive Board of the International Apparel Federation (IAF).
Over the past 20 years he has edited and published a number of economic and statistical publications relating to the wool industry. Outside interests include chess, cricket, classical music and 18th century European history.
Mr. Dominique Jacomet (Session II: Asia Market: Risks & Opportunities)
Director General of IFM (Institut Français de la Mode)
Mr. Dominique Jacomet joined the textile and clothing business in 1982 and held various positions inside the Indreco Group (Yves Saint Laurent and Christian Lacroix ready-to-wear) and Devanlay. He was Chairman and CEO of Devanlay US, then Managing Director of Devanlay SA. In 1999, he became Executive Board Director of Devanlay-Lacoste up to the beginning of 2007.
Dominique Jacomet has also been Chairman of the European Textile and Clothing Association (Euratex). He is Vice-Chairman of the French Textile Federation. He is currently the Director General of the Institut Français de la Mode (IFM). IFM is a Paris based famous centre for education (academic and executive), research, applied expertise and information in the fashion, design and creative industries.
In Session II, his topic is "Apparel brands global strategies: what are the challenges?" Apparel brands are facing globalization. What does it mean? What are the main challenges? What are the strategic needs and requirements? How to organize their resources and their core competence to deal with international development?
